Male birth control has long been a dream confined to urban legends. But a recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism just delivered some super-promising news: There’s a new male birth control shot that actually works.
For the study, an international team of researchers looked at a group of 266 married men between the ages of 18 and 45 who received birth control shots every eight weeks. First, the good news: The shot was super successful at preventing pregnancy (of all the couples participating in the study, only four got pregnant). In fact, the researchers found the male birth control method to be almost as effective as the current version of the Pill. Hooray!
